If there is holiness in us, it is because of the Lord. If there is anything good, anything noble, anything praiseworthy, it is because we “no longer live, but Christ lives in us.” It is not out of pious pretensions that we praise the Lord even for the qualities that people praise in us. We have been baptized into the Lord, and daily we are transformed into Him in the power of the Holy Spirit who renews the inward man within us in the same way as it transforms the bread and wine we offer into the Body and Blood of the Lord. Transformed by grace, a new creation by the blood of the Lamb: that is what we have become.
Laudetur Iesus Christus. Let Jesus Christ be praised!
If someone thanks you for an advice you gave that worked, let Jesus Christ be praised.
If someone praises you for clarifying an obscure passage in the Scriptures, let Jesus Christ be praised.
If someone tells you that your presence is a consolation, that your companionship is encouragement, that your words lift up the spirit, let Jesus Christ be praised.
For in the advice you give, when you make the Scriptures shine out in their clarity and in the consolation or encouragement or the upliftment people find in you, the Lord Himself continues to touch peoples’ lives, shepherding them and loving them.
