Nunc Dimittis

{ Tags: , \ May31 }

Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:
For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. (The Nunc Dimittis, Luke 2:29-32)

“In accord with the designs of Providence I have been given the opportunity to live in this difficult century which is passing away, and now in the year in which the count of my years reach eighty (octogesima adveniens), I must ask whether it is time to repeat the biblical Simeon’s “nunc dimittis”.” (From the Pope’s Last Will and Testament)

Update: April 9, 2005

The text of Cardinal Ratzinger’s homily for the papal funeral.

Update: April 10, 2005

Link to “Rogito”, the document placed in the coffin of the Pope and which contains a brief description of his life and works.  The translation is from Zenit.ORG, but I have Furled it so that any changes at Zenit would not affect its accessibility.
