Our parish held its first PREX Speakers’ Bureau on October 16-17, 2010. Twelve new PREX speakers, some of whom are already involved in our basic cell communities, graduated from the course. This program for the Speakers’ Bureau follows two separate sessions held last July for those who have been speaking in our Parish Renewal Experiences.
The two day seminar workshop was divided into three parts. Part I, held in the morning of October 16 was all theory. The participants were introduced to the Parish Renewal Experience and the modules that make it up. Three “talks” were singled out for closer inspection and as basis for the exercises that follow in parts II and III of the seminar. Part II was for speech and delivery and research. The participants were taught how to compose and deliver a “PREX-talk”. They were also introduced to some books that can make it easier for them to compose the “PREX-talk” which is essentially developed on the basis of Scriptures, the Catechism and the Lives of the Saints. Part III was the delivery of the “PREX-talk”. After Part I, the participants were asked to pick from three possible PREX-talks to compose and deliver. They were then divided into three groups according to the “talk” they chose, and on Sunday morning delivered their first “PREX-talk” before an Evaluator.
The graduates of our first PREX Speakers’ Bureau will first have to undergo a kind of on-the-job-training when they attend their first PREX as members of the Speakers’ Bureau in November, 2010. Some of them have worked as Lead Couples and Batch coordinators in previous renewal experiences, while others have been active leaders in other parish-based programs before, so the OJT period won’t take long. Depending on the recommendation of their Evaluators, we may perhaps see some of them work in pairs as team-speakers in our Parish Renewal Experiences for 2011.
