Conscience in the Catechism of the Catholic Church

In 2004, Sen. Francisco Tatad, told everyone in the Senate Hall, that he was following his conscience in voting against opening the envelope believed to incrimate then Pres. Estrada in criminal acts. Recently, Sen. Miriam Santiago in a speech before UP students and professors, emphasized her support for the RH Bill by pointing out that above the Pope is conscience. In a sense, both senators are right.

To follow one’s conscience is an obligation, and not even the Pope can tell anyone to go against his/her conscience.
